The creation for PointPerks came about this summer of 2023. I helped one of my brothers run a cafe here in baja california. We have a stamp card system with paper stamp cards of the cafe and one of the innovations for the autumn opening of the cafe was to have a virtual stamp card system. I’ve searched for a stamp card system that fits our needs, one of which was a offline system that was hopefully “free”.(The internet out here is terrible, constant blackouts of signal). I couldn’t find any in the ios or android market and the closest thing that i could find was a github respository made from a barber somewhere in the U.S.A. and it was written in C++, a programming language i never used. After a couple days i had the C++ program running in my laptop and it was ok at best, simple but it was a command line interface.

There was no way i could use this in the cafe, I needed a app for a tablet. I’ve learned python two years ago and do know some html and javascript from my college years. I decided to make one for the cafe and that took me close to two months to develop from scratch using the Kivy framework. I never coded so much in my life, day in, day out, i don’t even drink coffee, just tea for nerves. After so much trial and tribulation, i decided to make it available to the world, because i know i am not the only one that would have wished to have something like this available for free. I translated the app into twenty lanuages, used the most common languages spoken in the world.

Currently i am still making the other store listings in different languages and finally have time to update the app website. There is a couple updates i planned for pointperks, but to make it more readily available with the core features i sent it for review to google. It will be available in a couple days in the google play store. PointPerks is planned for development for ios, linux and windows, and i will get to that as soon as i finish all the digital work for PointPerks launch.
